Job Overview
AbbVie, a global leader in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, is seeking a Scientist I/II in Biologics Cell Line Development to join its South San Francisco team. This role focuses on developing stably transfected CHO cell lines for the production of monoclonal antibodies and antibody-like molecules, a critical component of AbbVie’s biotherapeutics pipeline.
As a Scientist, you will design, execute, and interpret key experiments while applying your expertise in aseptic techniques, mammalian cell culture, and high-throughput automation. You will collaborate with internal and cross-functional teams, maintain precise records, and contribute to advancing innovative therapies in a dynamic R&D environment.
Duties and Responsibilities

Design, execute, and interpret critical experiments related to cell line development.

Develop stably transfected CHO cell lines for monoclonal antibody and antibody-like molecule production.

Operate automated, high-throughput liquid handlers (e.g., Tecan, Hamilton).

Apply advanced aseptic techniques and maintain mammalian cell cultures.

Maintain detailed documentation in electronic lab notebooks.

Prepare technical reports and presentations to communicate findings.

Collaborate effectively within and across teams to achieve project goals.

Adapt to new experimental techniques and multitask within established timelines.

Present scientific data with clarity in written and verbal formats.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Cell Biology, Bioprocess Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field.

Experience:

Scientist I: BS with 5 years, or MS with 2 years of experience.

Scientist II: BS with 7+ years, or MS with 5+ years of experience.

Strong expertise in aseptic techniques and mammalian cell culture.

Proven experience developing CHO cell lines for antibody production.

Skilled in operating automated liquid handling systems.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software tools.

Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute, and analyze experiments.

Strong teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
