Job Overview

Ashby is a leading B2B SaaS company that’s revolutionizing Recruiting Technology, empowering businesses across the globe to optimize their hiring processes. We’re seeking an ambitious Product Engineer – Americas to join our fully remote team, spanning from North to South America. This full-time role offers a unique opportunity to directly impact our core product, focusing on solving customer problems and making long-term investments in our cutting-edge platform.

As a Product Engineer, you’ll own projects end-to-end, wearing hats traditionally worn by product and design, from researching competitors to writing product specs and making wireframes. You’ll tackle any part of our technology stack, thriving at the intersection of product and technical ambiguity. If you’re a results-driven full-stack engineer who values creating leverage in your work, thrives in an almost-no-meeting culture, and is always looking to improve, Ashby invites you to join our groundbreaking team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be an ambitious full-stack engineer laser-focused on solving customer problems and making long-term investments in the product.
  • Take ownership over a large portion of one of Ashby’s products, including owning projects end-to-end (wearing hats traditionally worn by product and design).
  • Conduct research on competitors, write clear product specs, and create intuitive wireframes to guide development.
  • Demonstrate proven ability to design and build automated interview scheduling, generalized declarative filter architectures, and offer signing features.
  • Be not afraid to tackle any part of a technology stack (frontend, infrastructure), showcasing full-stack versatility.
  • Thrive on tackling projects with a lot of product and technical ambiguity, excelling at the intersection of these two domains.
  • Know how to strike the right balance between speed and quality in all development efforts.
  • Be ambitious and always looking to improve skills; demonstrate openness to feedback (and actively provide it).
  • Exhibit excellent collaboration and communication skills, vetting decisions, keeping stakeholders updated, and working effectively with other engineers.
  • Seek to create leverage in work through automation, new abstractions, tools for debugging, and lint rules.
  • Demonstrate proven ability to lead or take ownership of projects (not just taking tasks from tech leads), driving initiatives independently.
  • Be able to learn new tech stack components quickly, with familiarity with TypeScript (frontend & backend), Node.js, React, Apollo GraphQL, Postgres, and Redis being helpful.
  • Leverage understanding of Datadog and Sentry for monitoring, and AWS cloud infrastructure for deployment (implicitly through SRE mention).
  • Be comfortable with an almost-no-meeting culture where changes are made via written communication and code.
  • Be willing to address customer issues and investigations as part of the team.
  • Primarily focus on building, rather than being solely a project manager or architect reviewer.

Qualifications

  • Experience Level: Mid-Level to Senior-Level (Ranges from Level 3 to Level 6, indicating a spectrum of experience from solid individual contributor to highly experienced/lead individual contributor roles. The mention that “More than 90% of the team would be considered Senior or above” suggests a strong preference for experienced hires.)
  • Education Requirement: Relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field is typically preferred.
  • Required Skills:
    • Ambitious full-stack engineer laser-focused on solving customer problems and making long-term investments.
    • Ability to take ownership over a large portion of one of Ashby’s products and own projects end-to-end (wearing hats traditionally worn by product and design).
    • Experience researching competitors, writing product specs, making wireframes.
    • Proven ability to design and build automated interview scheduling, generalized declarative filter architectures, and offer signing features.
    • Not afraid to tackle any part of a technology stack (frontend, infrastructure).
    • Experience tackling projects with a lot of product and technical ambiguity, thriving at the intersection of the two.
    • Knows how to strike the right balance between speed and quality.
    • Ambitious and always looking to improve skills; open to feedback.
    • Excellent collaborator and communicator (vetting decisions, keeping stakeholders updated, working with other engineers).
    • Seeks to create leverage in work (automation, new abstractions, tools for debugging, lint rules).
    • Proven ability to lead or take ownership of projects (not just taking tasks from tech leads).
    • Ability to learn new tech stack components, but familiarity with TypeScript (frontend & backend), Node.js, React, Apollo GraphQL, Postgres, Redis is helpful.
    • Experience with Datadog and Sentry, AWS cloud infrastructure (implicitly through SRE mention).
    • Comfortable with an almost-no-meeting culture where changes are made via written communication and code.
    • Willingness to address customer issues and investigations as part of the team.
    • Not primarily a project manager or architect reviewer; focuses on building.
