As a Principal Platform Engineer, you’ll be a “Swiss army knife” for hard problems, diving deep into infrastructure updates, security enforcements, database optimization, and Kubernetes debugging. You’ll leverage your extensive experience with AWS cloud infrastructure, TypeScript, Node.js, and Postgres to create automated guardrails for security and privacy, and help developers ship features fast through advanced deployment strategies. Duties and Responsibilities
- Act as a curious, rigorous, problem-hungry platform engineer who codes to solve complex challenges.
- Build a “paved road” for engineering teams, enabling faster, safer, and more efficient development.
- Apply experience from a slightly later stage than Ashby is currently at, involving millions of data points, and demonstrating how infrastructure truly impacts customer experience.
- Lead efforts in automating provisioning, monitoring, and release processes to enhance operational efficiency.
- Act as a “Swiss army knife” for hard problems, capable of tackling infrastructure updates, security enforcements, database optimization, Kubernetes debugging, and digging through Typescript traces.
- Be comfortable evaluating risk and making principled decisions to mitigate it.
- Don’t take shortcuts and consistently advocate for the future user, edge cases, and robust design.
- Care deeply about the work and the team, and actively seek to collaborate with others who share that ethos.
- Take ownership of projects end-to-end and have a significant impact on core parts of the Ashby developer and user experience.
- Possess extensive experience with TypeScript (frontend & backend), Node.js, React, Apollo GraphQL, Postgres, and Redis.
- Demonstrate familiarity with Datadog and Sentry for monitoring and error tracking.
- Leverage expertise with AWS cloud infrastructure to build and maintain scalable systems.
- Optimize complex compilers (e.g., DSL-to-SQL) for performance.
- Create automated guardrails for security and privacy, embedding security into the development lifecycle.
- Help developers ship features fast through advanced techniques like canary deploys, gradual rollouts, and feature flags.
- Define SLOs (Service Level Objectives) and implement SLIs (Service Level Indicators) to ensure system reliability.
- Ensure communication with external services supports retries and circuit-breakers for resilience.
- Implement robust infrastructure for event-driven architecture and data warehouses.
- Exercise strong judgment in deciding the “best paved road” for Ashby, balancing innovation with stability.
- Be comfortable diving into complex data reports and advising on performant data models.
- Consistently review and submit code changes, contributing actively to the codebase.
- Demonstrate strong written communication skills for fostering an asynchronous culture and sharing best practices.
- Deliver projects independently, seeking help when needed, and cutting scope when worthwhile to maintain focus and efficiency.
Qualifications
