Duties and Responsibilities
- Place drug orders accurately with wholesalers and manufacturers.
- Compare packing slips with invoices and purchase orders, meticulously verifying details.
- Receive and store orders in the proper location, ensuring optimal inventory management.
- Scan orders to check barcodes using Cerner system.
- Notify Pharmacy Clinical Analyst Pharmacist of new inventory items promptly.
- Fill out wholesaler accountability forms and diligently follow up on problems.
- Keep files up-to-date and organized for easy access.
- Obtain “out of stock” items from alternate sources to ensure medication availability.
- Proactively manage drug shortages, seeking solutions and communicating impacts.
- Add items to BD Cato and maintain the drug inventory database accurately.
- Process returnable goods and outdates for credit efficiently.
- Maintain correct shelf tags and organized shelves for clear inventory.
- Process recall items immediately and according to established protocols.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels to meet hospital demand.
- Pull medication and controlled substances accurately from Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADC) reports.
- Fill ADC, utilizing safety stock and entering expiration dates, and remove expired medications.
- Check return bins and for discrepancies at each ADC fill.
- Fill and label new orders with proper priority, ensuring timely delivery.
- Stock ADC by new upload, maintaining system synchronization.
- Pick up and process credits, ensuring financial accuracy.
- Maintain 5S of technician work areas and complete daily checklists.
- Work collaboratively with Pharmacy Clinical Analyst Pharmacist to maintain the BD Cato program.
- Train associates on BD Cato and establish standard work for chemotherapy compounding.
- Compound all admixtures, piggybacks, and chemotherapy following standard work, under pharmacist supervision, using aseptic technique and USP 797 guidelines.
- Fulfill daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning requirements strictly per USP 797 guidelines.
- Check refrigerators for IVs and discard outdated IVs; maintain cleanliness of the clean room.
- Stock clean room and place supply orders in P2P system.
- Follow daily production PARs for compounded/batched items.
- Prepare new orders and apply a double check system for accuracy.
- Ensure completion of all online records/logs (CQI).
- Deliver STAT IV solutions promptly for urgent patient needs.
- Mix chemotherapy utilizing closed transfer safety devices for safety.
- Serve as process owner for training other pharmacy associates in the Infusion Center.
- Interview participants for eligibility in medication assistance programs.
- Successfully utilize software for enrollment in assistance programs.
- Possess familiarity with eligibility guidelines for various programs.
- Serve as an advocate and community education resource for medication assistance.
- Develop systems for coordinating paperwork for expediting enrollment.
- Employ an approachable, informative, and compassionate demeanor in all interactions.
- Work collaboratively with EGH departments, community agencies, and other organizations.
- Communicate effectively with pharmaceutical representatives.

Qualifications
- Experience Level: Entry-Level to Mid-Level (1-2 years of Pharmacy Technician experience required).
- Education Requirement: High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Required Skills:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- National Pharmacy Tech Certification.
- Indiana Pharmacy Tech License.
- Minimum of 1 to 2 years of Pharmacy Technician experience.
- National Pharmacy Tech Certification in Compounded Sterile Preparation (required within the first 6 months).
- Excellent math skills.
- Computer skills including WORD and EXCEL, fax machine, order entry equipment.
- Effective communication skills.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical medication assistance programs, medical office procedures, day-to-day hospital pharmacy operations.
- Medical terminology.
- Knowledge of inventory control (logging receipt, storage, tracking use of medications).
