Job Overview

AbbVie, a global leader in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector, is seeking an accomplished Director, Clinical Pharmacology to join our team in North Chicago, IL. This is a full-time, Director / Executive-level position offering the opportunity to lead clinical pharmacology and PK/PD initiatives across multiple high-impact projects. The role provides scientific and strategic consultation, shaping critical decisions in drug development while influencing the overall direction of AbbVie’s innovative research.

As the Director, you will be responsible for guiding regulatory document development, conducting due diligence for potential acquisitions, and delivering risk assessments and issue resolutions. This role requires resilience, persistence, and courage, combined with exceptional scientific expertise and proven leadership skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead Clinical Pharmacology/PK/PD activities for multiple major projects, from planning through execution.

  • Identify challenges, support issue resolution, and provide strategic guidance.

  • Conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans.

  • Offer scientific and strategic consultation to R&D, Regulatory, and management teams on development strategies.

  • Evaluate technical and scientific aspects across AbbVie projects.

  • Review clinical protocols and reports for regulatory submissions, anticipating agency questions.

  • Oversee regulatory document writing, submission, and responses to agency feedback.

  • Conduct independent due diligence assessments for new projects or acquisitions.

  • Drive process improvements and contribute to departmental goals and strategy.

  • Influence PK/PD decision-making, ensuring scientific rigor.

  • Mentor and manage personnel, fostering growth and effective delegation.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • PhD with typically 7+ years in a relevant field.

  • PharmD with typically 9+ years in a relevant field.

  • MS or equivalent with typically 15+ years in a relevant field.

  • BS or equivalent with typically 17+ years in a relevant field.

  • Relevant expertise includes PK, PBPK, PK-PD, Pharmacometrics or systems pharmacology, drug metabolism, and transporters.

Leadership & Competencies:

  • Proven leadership in PK/PD, Biopharmaceutics, and Pharmacometric activities.

  • Demonstrated scientific project leadership.

  • Strong project management skills in scope, progress tracking, and time management.

  • Business acumen with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.

  • Persistent, resilient, and forward-thinking with the ability to advance new ideas.

  • Courageous yet respectful communicator, skilled in conflict resolution.

  • Creative problem-solver who connects diverse concepts to generate unique solutions.

Salary and Benefits

  • Competitive salary range: $156k – $296.5k yearly.
